Students present their original knowledge in written and oral exams in the courses they take at the undergraduate, master and doctorate levels. Their proficiency in writing a doctoral thesis is measured.

The aim of this course is to help doctoral students improve communication, discussion, and speaking to audience skills by preparing and presenting a recent study which could contribute to their thesis topic during their education, according to scientific research methods. In this course, studies are done regarding the basic resources and application methods of the sub-disciplines of Turkish Language and Literature. After the student specifies a seminar topic with their supervisor, a literature search is conducted on the thesis topic. The aim of the presentation is to give brief information about the purpose, the importance and the scope of the seminar and preparepreliminary information about the subject. The researcher presents the topic in an integrated manner and after summarizing the topic, the results are shared. The importance of the subject is emphasized and suggestions are put forward if there are any.

The aim of the course is to enable the student to conduct a study in accordance with the ethical rules for accessing, evaluating and interpreting information for the solution of a specific problem related to the scientific field in which he / she works. In this context, a thesis will be prepared on a specific subject in one of the disciplines of New Turkish Literature, Old Turkish Literature, Turkish Language and Turkish Folk Literature according to the selected science. After the thesis study has been developed and finalized under the supervision of the Thesis Monitoring Committee, it will be defended against the thesis jury. The primary goal of the thesis is to bring an innovation to Turkish language research, New Turkish Literature, Old Turkish Literature or Turkish Folklore research and to fill a gap. In this respect, the relationship between the path, findings and the outcome of the thesis will be evaluated from an academic framework. The publication of the thesis developed by the jury, which is deemed appropriate by the jury, will be published in a journal which is searched by international academic indexes.

Basic concepts, principles, and approaches in scientific research are introduced prior to research training. Functions, features, and sources of sciences are studied. In addition, the fundamental hypothesis of scientific research and research methods are studied in depth. Contributions of scientific research and to the fields of Turkish Folklore and Literature, New Turkish Literature, Old Turkish Literature and Turkish Language Studies as well as fieldwork are carried out. The students are guided to carry out research on their chosen topic to gain experience in carrying out research and to contribute to existing literature with new perspectives. Carrying out a literature review, preparing a reference list, without any ethical infringements and plagiarism are stressed. Types of referencing and preparing a reference list are explained with detailed examples.

Ancient Anatolian Turkish, which is known by different names in the literature such as; Western Turkish, South West Turkish, Ancient Oghuz Turkish, Ancient Ottoman Turkish, and Ancient Turkey Turkish, is the first step of the first written work which was developed in 13th century. The first objective of this course is to explain this writing type within its social, political and historical context. After explaining the formation stage of the related writing type, bilingualism that is observed in the first written documents, which is also counted as the hybrid language that reflects both East and West Turkish, is mentioned. This course, which starts with the text analysis of works which show hybrid language such as Behcetu-l Hadaik, continues with the analysis of the language of handwritten works, which show the changes of the three main steps of Ancient Anatolian Turkish.

The course includes the acquisition of historical, academic and critical perspectives on the main sources of prose (article, memory, travel, letter, history) novel and story, poetry, theater, criticism and other literary genres, and an examination of the sources of folk theatre in the creation of the first period works in the theatre genre. The period covered starts from the first poetics about the structure of the new poetry, which has undergone a major change since the nineteenth century through to scanning the literature in the literary canon. This involves determining the historical origins of the new Turkish Literature genres and conducting library research, determining the methods of accumulation in electronic resources, compilation of information about New Turkish Literature in literary history, and the examination of master's and doctoral theses which have been made in the field of new Turkish literature in Cyprus and Turkey.

The course focuses on types of prose in Old Turkish Literature, including the introduction and analysis of the historical development of the prose in old Turkish Literature, recognizing, reading, understanding and interpreting the main text types of Ottoman Turkish literature. The literary texts of the Ottoman period are not merely poetry, there are many prose texts, produced during that period, which meet the literary and cultural requirements of that period, listed as; the skill of recognizing, reading and interpreting these texts. Study also focuses on artists who wrote in prose type in Old Turkish Literature, the ability to read, understand and interpret a large number of literary, historical, religious, and mystical texts by framing prose texts of Turkish literature (epic stories, folk tales, stories, menacbnames, tezkires et al.), and studies on old prose in Turkish Literature.

The language of the works dating back to Uyghur Turks, who were the socio-cultural descendants of Kok Turks and the Kok Turk state, is studied. The documents dating back to the Kok Turk era are introduced and the research conducted is studied. The discrepancies in the interpretations and readings of The Kul Tigin, Bilge Khagan and Tonyukuk inscriptions with respect to the differences in their perspectives from their first reading to today are studied. The dense body of translated works dating back to the Uyghur period, including those such as Altun Yaruq, The story of Good and Evil Hearted Prince, Castani Bey, Dandipali, Kuanşi im Pusar, are transcribed and linguistically analysed. The grammar and vocabulary of Turkish dialects are sourced and studied to understand the depth and breadth of the discipline.
