CIU implements Flexible Grading System

The Senate of Cyprus International University decided to implement the “Flexible Grading System (FGS)” in addition to the existing letter grade system to eliminate the concerns that students may experience regarding their overall academic success in the evaluation of educational activities carried out on the digital platform due to the COVID-19 outbreak in our country and the world.

In their statement, CIU Public Relations and Corporate Communications Directorate, explained that FGS will be implemented on the condition that it is limited to the 2019-2020 Spring Semester and for one time only. It was mentioned that the students could change their final grades to Pass or Fail (PS / PU) upon their request as part of the aforementioned practice.

Applications for FGS, which can be implemented for all courses in all associate, undergraduate, and graduate programs, will be made within three working days of the day determined for the announcement of the final grades for the 2019-2020 Spring Semester on the Academic Calendar and the announcement of the re-sit grades.

Students will be able to request a PS/PU grade through the online system without a need for permission or approval for each course they are registered to. While stating that PS and PU grades will not be included in the calculation of the semester and cumulative grade point average, it was also noted that PS and PU grades will be recorded in transcripts and explained as a footnote, and PS grades will be included in the graduation credit.
