"Cultural Adaptation & Law of the Island" Seminar Held
The “Cultural Adaptation & Law of the Island” seminar, organized through a collaboration between the Cyprus International University (CIU) Student Counseling Center Directorate, the International Office, and the Medi Foundation, featured Dr. Canan Salih, Lawyer Nevin Ersoy, and Lawyer Melek Mestan from the Medi Foundation.
In the first session of the seminar, Dr. Canan Salih, speaking on behalf of the Medi Foundation, provided information about the foundation's mission and activities as part of the cooperation protocol established with the university. In the second session, Lawyer Nevin Ersoy and Lawyer Melek Mestan delivered a presentation on national laws, immigration procedures, and legal rights.
This event, which is highly important for students to understand their rights, emphasized the importance of completing student registration procedures as soon as possible upon arrival on the island and initiating the process of obtaining a student permit (residency) to fully benefit from all legal rights. At the end of the session, students' questions were answered.
Additionally, in the second session, students were informed—through examples—on how to adapt to CIU, a university that brings together different cultures in a foreign country. A supportive survey was also conducted to help raise students' awareness.
CIU places great importance on providing information about cultural adaptation and the laws of the island, including where, from whom, and how students can get support. In this regard, the university continues to raise awareness and educate its students every year through orientation processes and various seminars.
