About the Program

Our Specialist Doctorate Degrees were designed for the professionals who would like to broad- en their knowledge, expand their expertise and develop research skills with a focus on theoretical knowledge and its use in business practice. By conducting original research in their specialist area, candidates are able to progress their careers and stand out in the competitive globalized marketplace. The program aims to develop personal, consultancy and research skills in the context of rigorous and relevant research.

Education Opportunities

In the CIU, professional doctoral studies provide research on current topics in management science, management theories, statistics, economics, and research methods. The language of instruction is English. Before completing the thesis, the student is expected to develop his / her field expertise in close cooperation with the faculty advisors. The conclusion of doctoral studies includes the preparation of the thesis proposal and the actual completion of the thesis research and defense of the thesis in front of a jury that consists of the academicians and is written in accordance with the academic form. Throughout doctoral education, students are encouraged to submit papers at conferences and publish articles to publish in prestigious journals.

Career Areas

A DBA is usually seen as the highest level of academic achievement for today’s managers and is thus ranked over the well-known MBA. Main target group for a DBA program are middle- and top-management executives, who have already earned their Masters or MBA degree and thus it opens totally new career prospects and the elevation on the career ladder. DBA graduates are equipped to hold several high-level positions, based on their field of spe- cialization and career interests. Roles may include executive and leadership positions in corpo- rations, non-profit organizations and government institutions and healthcare organizations. Professionals with a DBA may also perform financial analytics, conduct business research or write for business publications, educational textbooks and online business media. Your DBA most certainly would allow you to stand out of the crowd and draw the attention of your future employers.

The first and ultimate stage of the research study is to produce a viable doctoral level research proposal to the Thesis Progress Committee (TPC). The student has to prepare a research proposal which sets out research ideas in a coherent form. As well as developing the research proposal to a level where it is accepted by the committee, it is one of the most critical points in the development of the research. As soon as the proposal is accepted by the committee, students could begin to work under the supervision of appointed supervisor. The supervisor will assist from the initial phase and guide students to develop the agreed research field, set research aims and objectives and develop the necessary research background. At key stages, the student is expected to submit the work to the supervisor for approval or acceptance.

At this stage of research, students are expected to provide progress reports and also presenting their work which are the standard processes on all good doctoral programmes. These allow the Thesis Progress Committee (TPC) to provide feedback to help students with their rate of progress and to identify the particular needs of students. Students present literature review of work previously published by other researchers. It demonstrates that the students are aware of the published work in the chosen research area and has read the works of the main authors and has used this knowledge in the development of the research. Research questions, aims, objectives and hypotheses are presented. Research aims and objectives, and any operational hypotheses are stated clearly with the overall outcomes of the research work. The objectives are the individual actions necessary to achieve the aims.

Theoretical framework of research methodology of the study is reported at this stage of the research. This enhance a sufficient detail on the proposed research methodologies and demonstrate why a particular methodology has been chosen in coherence with literature review. Sample design and details of the data collection process are also specified that provide the necessary level of detail to describe what is being done and why.

A DBA thesis, which is the output of the program, is expected to: Develop personal, consultancy and research administration competences by undertaking precise research at an advanced level that contributes to the theory and practice in business and management. The thesis work generates and interprets knowledge through organizational and industrial research.

Students who are interested in pursuing advanced graduate studies leading to a master’s, doctoral degree or professional doctorate degree for the Fall and Spring semesters every year. Applicants can directly apply online to our graduate programs using the application portal.

  • Evidence of English Language competence: TOEFL (65 IBT) or IELTS (5.5). Students without these documents will take the CIU English proficiency exam on campus following arrival.
